Common questions

How do I start a rack record?

Choose New project, enter the site details, add a rack, then add a patch panel or switch. Open a port and choose Edit to record its destination, cable ID, status and notes. You can first explore the clearly labelled fictional sample project.

What do the connection statuses mean?

Recorded means someone entered the connection details. Needs review keeps unresolved work visible. Not in use describes an intentionally unused port. These are documentation statuses, not cable-test results.

How do I hand over the work?

Open the project and choose Handover → Save CSV. The export includes every port, including unresolved and unused ports. When opening the CSV in spreadsheet software, import identifier columns as text to preserve leading zeros.

Can I make a copy of all my records?

In Settings, choose Save a copy of all records to export JSON with exact stored values. Version 1.0 exports JSON but does not import or restore it. Keep exported files somewhere trusted.

Where are my records stored?

The app saves records in its own local storage on your iPhone. No app account or internet connection is needed for documentation. Exports go to the destination you choose, and device backups may include app data depending on your settings.

Can I undo a mistake?

After saving a connection change, open Connection actions and choose Undo last connection change. This provides one undo level, not a full history. A changed draft asks before you discard it.

What happens if I delete or offload the app?

Deleting the app and its data through iPhone Storage removes its local records. Offloading preserves app data. Save anything you need before deleting. Separately exported files and device backups can remain in their destinations.

Does it scan networks or test cables?

No. Rack Handover records what you observe. It does not discover devices, certify cabling or verify a working network connection.

Which devices and features are supported?

Version 1.0 requires an iPhone with iOS 27.0 or later. It supports rack/equipment/port documentation, CSV handovers and JSON exports. It does not include PDF reports, photo capture, cloud sync, billing or JSON import.

How do I change appearance or text size?

Choose System, Light or Dark appearance in the app’s Settings. Text size follows your iPhone’s accessibility settings, and the interface follows Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency. If an accessibility issue gets in your way, email support with the affected screen and your settings.
